A Message from the Principal
Dear Cragmont Families,
The Cragmont Site Council consists of a group of parents, staff members and me. The site council meets monthly throughout the school year. We spend our meeting time examining the previous year’s school site plan, understanding the job duties of the currently funded positions, and analyzing school and district data. At our last May meeting, we finalized a budget for the 2019-20 school year.
Some of the data we examined to inform our budget decisions included school and district math data showing a substantial achievement gap at Cragmont and district wide. We also noticed a declining English learner student enrollment (from 40 EL students 2 years ago to 26 EL students this year). Based on this data, we determined our final budget for next year. We decided to fund 40% of our RTI Teacher position (1.0 position including district funding), 25% of our Literacy Coach position (1.0 position with district funding), and a new Math Intervention teacher position at 40%. We also decided to take the ELD teacher position out of this budget (40% is still funded by the district).
I want to thank our Site Council Committee members for their dedicated work on this committee.
Sincerely,
Michelle Sinclair, Principal
GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY was a huge success! Grandparents and Special Friends celebrated with student performances, refreshments, school tours, classroom visits and even the chance to buy raffle tickets to support Cragmont. We made $1,200 thanks to generous donations! Thank you PTA, parent volunteers and especially Kim Syer and Claire Dugan who work tirelessly to organize this day.
THE CRAGMONT CARNIVAL on Sunday, May 5th, was filled with fun for both children and adults. There were many activities, awesome food, and there was great attendance. The highlight for me was getting dunked by a 5th grader with a great arm! Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event so successful. And, thank you to the staff and students who joined me in getting dunked.
THE CRAGMONT PTA NEEDS YOU! Everyone is welcome to nominate others, or yourself. Do you know someone you think has an important view to share? Do you have a new viewpoint to share?
To nominate yourself or someone else to join our diverse and talented group of PTA folks, email ptapresident@cragmont.org.
FIELD DAYS is a fun day of activities on the grassy field for our students. We need volunteers to help run the stations. If you can volunteer, please contact clairedugan@berkeley.net
