Tardiness

If your child is late to school, he/she must report to the front office and ask for a late slip. The child will then give the late slip to his/her teacher.

Absences

 

ABSENTEE REPORTING

If your child is absent, you must notify the school every day that your child is absent. You can do this in any of the following ways:

  1. Phone the absentee hotline at (510) 644-6333 

  2. Complete our online absentee form

  3. Email Sheyla Flores directly

  4. Send a note with your child and have them hand it to their teacher or the front office

​

REASONS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES

  • illness or contagious disease

  • injury

  • medical/dental appointment with a note from the medical office

  • religious holiday observance

  • attendance to the funeral of a family member

  • failure to present evidence of immunizations

  • Out of school with an independent study contract, with prior approval from the principal in place, and all assigned work turned into the teacher within one day of the student's return

TRUANCY

If your child is absent from school without a valid excuse for 3 or more days in one school year, or is tardy or absent for more than any 30 minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on 3 occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, your child will be considered truant and you will receive letters from the school, as directed by BUSD’s Student Services Department.

Medications at School

WHAT IF MY CHILD NEEDS MEDICATION AT SCHOOL?

If your child requires ANY medications during school hours, you must have your child’s pediatrician fill out this Medication Administration Form prior to bringing any medication to the school.  If your child self-administers medication, this form must be on file at the front office.

 

Please notify the front office when sending the Medication Administration Form and medication to school with your child.

 

All medication must be brought to school in the original labeled container prepared by the pharmacy, doctor, or pharmaceutical company (i.e., no envelopes, foil, or baggies). The label should include the following:

  • Child's name

  • Name of medication

  • Dosage of medication to be given

  • Frequency of administration

  • Route of administration

  • Name of physician ordering medication

  • Date of prescription

  • Expiration date

​

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Medication Administration Form is valid for one year ONLY.
